Silly Simeon Stuff

A not totally belated Happy Holidays (Christmas, Kwanzaa, Channukah, New Years (am I missing anything?)) to everybody.

I’m sure there are things I should have blogged about by now but rather than try to figure it all out, I’ll just skip to the real reason anybody reads this blog – Simeon.  A few relatively recent cute things from our resident two-year old that I don’t want to forget.

Incident Report:
About a month ago, I arrived to pick up Simeon from the daycare and noticed there was an incident report for him.  He had a bloody nose during the day.  Apparently, he was walking around with his finger up his nose and tripped. Reading it, I couldn’t help but laugh.  Especially after talking to the teachers and learning that soon after the nose was clean again, he went right back to walking around (in the same area) with his finger up his nose again. *sigh*

Wiggles:
He’s been watching some of his Wiggle DVDs for bedtime recently and seems he’s picked up on their signature finger waggle.  Yesterday, I picked up a few audio cds from the library, including one of the Wiggles.   He discovered it in the stack before I checked out and has been carrying it around with him almost everywhere since then.  Today, I noticed that if he’s trying to let us know that he wants to listen or watch the Wiggles, he waggles his fore-fingers the way the Wiggles do.

Learning words:
A few of the newer words in Simeon’s vocabulary all seem to have a common thread.  ‘Show’ means he wants to watch a dvd or tv show.  ‘Rock’ stands for Fraggle Rock.  ‘Bay’ is Wiggle Bay.  And he’s gotten pretty good with saying the full title of Blue’s Clues.  ‘Game’ has also been added to the vocabulary list – referring to playing a game on the computer.  Generally, if we say no to one he then asks for the other.

Maggie:
Simeon and Maggie seem to be developing a nice relationship.  There are times where Simeon will chase Maggie and, if he manages to catch her, give her a huge bear hug – practically crushing the poor cat – and try to pick her up.  There are other times when Maggie will come close to him while he’s playing with a toy and Simeon bats her away with a ‘No!” so that she doesn’t take the toy from him.  The other night, I went to set up the humidifier in his room after he was asleep for the night and found Maggie curled up on the reclining chair in the corner.

The baby:
I’ve been trying to think of ways to help Simeon understand that there’s a new family member on the way.  One of those is to try and let him feel the baby move.  However, most often he quickly takes his hand back and pulls my shirt back down in a “that’s not decent, mommy!” sort of manner.
